Requirements

Research Associate, Department of Neuroscience - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) is an internationally recognized academic medical center whose missions of research, teaching and patient care are carried out with a strong emphasis on community outreach.

Neuroscience's Rebeck Lab explores cell and molecular aspects of Alzheimer's disease, work that is largely supported by NIH grants. Due to successful funding, the Lab has the opportunity to do research in the metabolism of a protein that accumulates in the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients, A-beta.

The Research Associate supports the lab's research regarding cellular processes that could lead to the accumulation of this protein during aging, or in the presence of other risk factors of Alzheimer's disease - thus furthering knowledge and addressing an important clinical problem. Reporting to a Neuroscience Professor, and coordinating with other lab members, the Research Associate has duties that include but are not limited to:

Basic Research
  • Develop assays for A-beta metabolism studies
  • Perform experiments using cell culture models
  • Analyze mouse brain tissue for A-beta accumulation under several conditions

Presentations
  • Present research at national meetings
  • Write manuscripts related to research findings

Qualifications
  • B.A.
  • Additional graduate training in the neurosciences
