The Coordinator of Campus Recreation is responsible for a comprehensive Campus Recreation program including management of facilitates, programs, and student personnel. This professional will be responsible for planning and coordinating departmental initiatives related to wellness, club sports, intramural sports, and the Fitness Center. This individual will work closely with students, parents, and all stakeholders to foster a positive wellness community that is focused on student retention and persistence. Efforts will support the mission of the University and the goals of the Division of Student Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and assessment of the Fitness Center, including student personnel, facility maintenance, risk management, and general policy control.
  • Plans and executes programming on-campus and off-campus addressing student health and promoting wellness.
  • Coordinates and supervises the Fitness program which currently includes: group exercise classes, personal training, instructional programs, small group training, and special event/programs.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates Fitness staff positions including group exercise instructors, personal trainers, program assistants, and interns.
  • Manage and administer all aspects of a comprehensive intramural and club sports program, including facility management, equipment condition and usage, and coaching staff.
  • Hire, train, and support all intramural staff (officials, field supervisor, tournament coordinators).
  • Preparing and monitoring departmental revenues and expenses, including Intramural and Club Sports budgets.
  • Advising, encouraging and assisting Club Sports and Intramural student leaders and providing leadership development opportunities.
  • Monitors safety hazards such as weather conditions and coordinates emergency procedures while ensuring the safety of program participants.
  • Management of office inventory to include determining equipment for order and equipment replacement and repair.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of the office's initiatives.
  • Construct and assess student learning outcomes for all programs and services.
  • Serve as a Responsible Employee for Title IX and Campus Security Authority (CSA) for the Clery Act
  • Serve as a first responder during campus emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other:

  • This position requires evening and weekend hours to fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of wellness education efforts by developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, services, and resources geared toward enhancing the student's well-being.
  • Experience with IM Leagues
  • Experience with and knowledge of NIRSA events, rules and sponsored tournaments
  • Strong experience officiating and training officials for a variety of intramural sports
  • Demonstrated cultural competence; proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse campus community.
  • Ability and willingness to speak publicly during programming events.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and off-campus personnel.
  • Assist with campus-wide programming efforts as needed, as well as major departmental, divisional and institutional initiatives.
  • Serve on University committees and task forces.
  • Follow-through with all responsibilities and communications in a timely manner.
  • Keep accurate records of events, programs, budgets, evaluations, etc.
  • Complete the appropriate assessments of programs and functions.
  • Develop appropriate, professional relationships with students and colleagues (internal and external).
  • Work collaboratively with all areas of the University and serve as a resource for the campus community.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with students.
  • Embrace an open-door approach to communicating with students to assist with ideas, issues, and concerns relating to Student Affairs, individual development, and programs/services.

Minimum Qualifications

The Center for Student Involvement seeks a high energy, student-centered professional, who is ambitious, innovative, forward-thinking, and works well on a team. For consideration, this individual must minimally possess:

  • A Master's degree in student affairs, recreation management, sports management, fitness, physical education, or equivalent is required.
  • Two years of experience working in intercollegiate athletics or campus recreation is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing or overseeing athletic or fitness facilitties is required.
  • Experience coordinating intramural sports programs including a variety of competitive league and tournament formats and administrative experience in a club sport environment
  • Knowledge of and the ability to implement student development theory.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must have a valid and clear Driver's License and be permitted to drive in the state of Florida.
