The Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences invites applications for a non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor to serve as its Director of Undergraduate Studies beginning as soon as July 1, 2022. Qualifications required of all applicants include extensive experience commensurate with a PhD degree or equivalent in any of the disciplines that span computing and data sciences and a strong commitment to teaching and to curricular development that is informed by real-world experience in an academic or industrial setting.

Founded in 2019, the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences is a university-wide, degree-granting academic unit focused on core and applied areas of computing, computational, and data-driven inquiry. Housed in an iconic 19-story building with a convention-bending design to be completed in 2022, CDS complements traditional cognate academic disciplines by laying the foundation for innovation-driven, civic-minded computing to maximize the real-world impact of research, curricular, and co-curricular programs that are thematically aligned with strategic goals of the university. In the Fall of 2021, CDS launched its signature undergraduate BS degree program in Data Science. Additional information about the Faculty is available at https://www.bu.edu/cds.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a clinical faculty member in CDS at the rank of assistant professor, carrying a teaching load of three introductory or intermediate undergraduate courses per year, covering foundational and core data science subjects. As Director of Undergraduate Studies, the successful candidate will play a key role in the academic advising, mentorship, and career counseling of students, and in the development of the instructional capacity supporting CDS’s undergraduate programs. Initial appointment will be for a renewable three-year term with future longer-term appointments expected.

Particular attention will be given to candidates with a record of pedagogical innovation in topics that are relevant to data science, most notably mathematical and algorithmic foundation, software and data engineering, data mining, machine learning, and AI. Candidates from underrepresented groups and those who have a track record of broadening participation in computing and data science are encouraged to apply.
