Staff Psychologist, Student Counseling Center

The Student Counseling Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for Staff Psychologist.

The Division: The Division of Student Life is comprised of over 400 staff persons who serve our students through 16 departments and functions. Division Staff are actively engaged in the lives of students, living and learning with them in our residence halls, student union, and other campus environments. The Division seeks candidates willing to engage, challenge, and support our students through intentional programs and services. The Department: The Student Counseling Center is a full-service collegiate counseling center staffed by 14 full time licensed clinicians (Psychologists, Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist).  As an APA accredited training site with 5 intern positions, the center provides robust training for multiple levels of doctoral psychology trainees. The Center shares a state of the art facility Student Health Center and the Center for Health Education and Wellness allowing for a wide range of collaborative care for students.

The Position: Reporting to the Student Counseling Center Director, staff psychologists have three main duties: the provision of therapy and psychological services, clinical supervision and training, and outreach and consultation. The successful candidate’s clinical work, supervision, and community intervention will be infused with multicultural competency and demonstrate clear interest and commitment to all dimensions of diversity.

The successful candidate will have strong general therapy skills and the ability to provide effective treatment in a short-term model. Our psychologists have the ability to work with a range of clinical issues and complex diagnoses. The successful candidate will be involved in supervision and training within a vigorous training program that includes APA accredited internship positions, Graduate Assistantships, and doctoral practicum and advanced practicum trainees. We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about supervision and training in the context of clinical service delivery. Our clinical staff find worth and value in engagement with the university community and provide community intervention, outreach, and the development of liaison relationships with campus partner.  

Responsibilities:

    Providing direct clinical services such as individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, screening interviews, and drop-in and crisis interventionSupervising and training of doctoral interns, graduate assistants, advanced practicum clinicians and practicum cliniciansParticipating in community intervention efforts, such as providing workshops or training, providing consultation, serving on university committees, developing liaison relationships, and assisting with university eventsCollaborating with Counseling Center staff and campus partners to advance the mission of the universityOther related duties as assigned


Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Education:

    Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology from APA-accredited program (exceptional ABDs with clear completion date will be considered)Successful completion of an APA-accredited internship Licensed or license eligibility as a psychologist in the state of TennesseeMinimum of one year working with college population in therapy
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    Previous experience providing psychological services to the college populationDemonstrated knowledge of developmental issues of college students and commitment to student successDemonstrated commitment to and experience providing treatment to students from historically marginalized populations Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness Evidence of strong generalist clinical skills including effectiveness in a short-term treatment model (12 or fewer sessions)Demonstrated effectiveness in assessment and intervention with a range of clinical issues and complex diagnostic concerns Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve goals
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

    At least one year of therapy work in a university counseling centerExperience in and desire to provide leadership in some aspect of our center’s social justice, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and commitments. Experience providing psychological services in a college counseling centerExperience providing supervision and training to doctoral psychology studentsDemonstrated interest and experience working with international, historically underrepresented, and/or underserved student communitiesOutstanding interpersonal skills demonstrated in speaking, listening, and writing.
    Experience and skills with Eating Disorders/Body Image Issues, Sexual Assault, Trauma, Substance Abuse, or Autism Spectrum Experience and skills with coordination of group programs, practicum training programs, or community intervention and outreach, or use of technology to enhance servicesExperience and skills in group work, couple therapy, or DBTExperience and skills in providing trans-affirming services
