The Computing Infrastructure Operations Team researches, selects, implements, updates and monitors compute, storage, security, networking, identity management, retention and backup resources on which the most complex, campus and enterprise-wide critical applications can be built in highly available, scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-efficient on-premises and hybrid cloud environments. The Computing Infrastructure Operations Team's delivery of highly available, secure, and resilient on-premises and multi-cloud application ready environments is fundamental and foundational to the successful platforming of enterprise-wide critical applications and is accomplished by strenuous research, continuous improvement of complex design, and complex scripting for repeatable success.

The Computing Infrastructure Operations Team within ITS designs, implements and manages UC San Diego's compute, storage, hypervisors and backup systems. Working closely with the Applications Platforms Team, builds and manages systems for our customers across campus and in the hybrid-cloud environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent would be responsible for the day to day monitoring, patching, installation, and automation of an enterprise VMWare environment spanning multiple datacenters, enterprise Rubrik backup system, assist in migrations and integrations, develop cloud and specifically Kubernetes infrastructure using scripting and industry standard tools. Support, maintain, automate, and improve enterprise VMWare environment. Manage backup, data protection, and ransomware protection systems, maintain documentation, perform upgrades, research and implement security patches and new features, and respond to internal requests. Specifies and builds, monitors, maintains, and manages cloud and SaaS infrastructure, primarily in AWS, utilize standardized tools to implement, manage, and maintain retail and hybrid cloud infrastructure using best practices and well-defined methods of infrastructure as code. Utilize experience and expertise to maintain and develop highly secure and scalable Kubernetes and containerization environment, participate in application modernization and cloud migration efforts.

Employee must be available to work evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Rich experience with managing a large, multi-site VMWare environment including monitoring, patching, securing, upgrading and migrating. Proven ability to manage data backup and protection including ransomware and data recovery.

  • Advanced experience building and automating hybrid cloud resources primarily in AWS and Amazon Kubernetes (EKS), preferably as code.

  • Demonstrated experience working with specialized VMWare virtualization technology storage, and data protection hardware.

  • Advanced experience with administration of cloud services including AWS, Azure, Google, and other emerging technologies.

  • Proven experience building and maintaining robust, secure, and scalable Kubernetes containerization infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.

  • Experience in enterprise level backup and recovery solutions

  • AWS Certified Solutions Associate preferred
