Position Summary

The College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University invites applicants for a multi-position thematic tenure track hire with a focus on race, ethnicity, gender, and/or social inequality. We seek scholar-teachers whose research, teaching, and/or service addresses systemic inequities and who will advance the College’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The goal of the thematic hire is to grow our collaborative network of scholars focused on communication and disparities across a broad range of subdisciplines, bringing together new hires and existing faculty experts.

Successful candidates will be part of a community of scholars and practitioners working to enhance social justice through research in the fields of communication, journalism studies, advertising, public relations, information science, game studies, and communicative sciences and disorders. The hiring initiative will bring in five new faculty over two years.

One of these positions will be created in the MSU School of Journalism with a starting date Fall Semester, 2022. The ideal candidate will have a well-defined research agenda focused on inequities, inclusivity, and/or diversity as it pertains to journalism or digital storytelling, with evidence of scholarly publication in peer-reviewed journals and potential for external funding in their areas of expertise. Any theoretical and methodological orientation is welcome. The position is open rank. A terminal degree is required.

Teaching duties should align with at least one of the program’s concentrations, such as writing, reporting, and editing; media photography/photojournalism; sports journalism; broadcast journalism; animation; multicam production; or documentary production. Professional experience is welcomed.

The ACEJMC-accredited program has two undergraduate majors (Journalism and Digital Storytelling, each with multiple concentrations), a Masters’ program, and a shared doctoral program.
