JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Kinesiology at Berry College invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Exercise Science to begin August 2022. The Department of Kinesiology seeks a faculty member who is committed to excellent undergraduate teaching and can develop and establish a productive line of academic research on campus (preferably including undergraduate researchers).  All qualified candidates will be considered, with particular interest in those with teaching experience or research agendas related to Nutrition and/or Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Kinesiology is a dedicated, collegial four-person department committed to providing applied and experiential learning in the classroom, in the laboratory, and through internships and career-centered student work opportunities. The Department of Kinesiology's teaching and research labs are housed in the Cage Center, a state-of-the-art 131,000 facility with a performance arena that seats nearly 2,000 for varsity athletics, a natatorium, an expansive fitness center, racquetball courts and an indoor walk/jog track among its many amenities. Many opportunities exist for different lines of research in Exercise Science. Laboratories are well-equipped, and we have access to diverse participant populations including NCAA Division III athletes as well as residents from The Spires at Berry College, a new continuing care retirement community located on campus, offering opportunities for faculty research as it relates to nutrition, wellness, and rehabilitation. Kinesiology faculty also have the opportunity to partner with faculty in Nursing to promote health, wellness, and activity in Berry's intergenerational campus community (including children attending on-campus laboratory schools).

In addition to a commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and publishable scholarship, the faculty member should possess a strong interest in mentoring students in a residential college environment. Faculty are expected to involve undergraduates in their research, serve as academic advisors, and contribute to the vitality of the campus and professional communities through their service.  Kinesiology offers its students signature experiences through a required senior internship as well as strongly encouraging them to participate in undergraduate research, upper-level LifeWorks positions related to health and wellness, and/or study abroad. Start-up funds are available, along with competitive internal research support and assistance in seeking external funding.
