The American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.  The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at AUB was established in 1954, as the first independent school of public health in the Arab world. It hosts the only Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited programs in public health in the Arab region. FHS comprises four departments (Environmental Health, Epidemiology and Population Health, Health Management and Policy, and Health Promotion and Community Health) and the Division of Health Professions. At the graduate level, FHS offers a Master of Public Health with three concentrations: an MS in Environmental Health, an MS in Epidemiology, an Executive Master’s in Health Care Leadership, and a PhD in Epidemiology, in addition to two joint MS programs with the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. FHS also contributes to the teaching of public health at the Faculty of Medicine. FHS is home to nearly 400 students (35-40% graduate) coming from diverse national and socioeconomic backgrounds and 41 research active faculty. More information and details can be found at the following link to FHS.

Reporting to the provost, the dean is the responsible academic and executive head of the school. In addition to managing academic and administrative functions of the faculty, the dean participates in university-wide shared governance processes and is a member of AUB’s leadership team. The dean will be an accomplished academic leader qualified for appointment to the rank of tenured full professor in an appropriate FHS department. Leading candidates will have a distinguished record of scholarship; a commitment to education, research, community outreach as well as the values and the vision of AUB; the capacity to advance the faculty’s academic mission and interests; demonstrated administrative experience including strategic planning, personnel management, budget development, and management in an academic setting; a record of recruiting and retaining high-quality faculty and students; and the capacity to engage with multiple constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as leaders in the health, political, social, and governmental sectors.

Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. For full consideration, materials should be received by December 10, 2021, but recruitment will continue until the position is filled. Candidates should send a curriculum vita, a letter describing interest in the position, and the names and contact information for five references to [email protected]. Candidates will be notified before references are contacted.
