Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Biology

Position & Qualifications
Biology is one of the university’s most popular undergraduate majors, and the department offers both B.A. and B.S. degrees. The department faculty has expertise in a broad range of biological sub-disciplines, and the successful candidate will add to this expertise with teaching and research experience at the cellular and molecular level. The position carries six courses per academic year; each laboratory section of a course counts as 0.5 teaching credit (e.g., two laboratory sections of the same course equal one teaching credit). The successful candidate will teach the lecture and laboratory sections for molecular and cell biology (one of three required courses for the biology major) each year. In addition, this person will offer an upper-level course in genetics with one or two laboratory sections every other year, alternating with at least one other upper-level molecular course in the successful candidate’s area of interest.
Many of the department faculty regularly make interdisciplinary contributions across campus, offering courses that are cross-listed with other departments, especially within the sciences. Flexibility in the teaching responsibilities of this position allows for regular contribution to the university’s general education curriculum and to the biology department’s sophomore seminar and senior capstone courses in rotation with department colleagues. Biology faculty advise majors and minors, actively engage in research that frequently involves mentoring or co-advising undergraduate student researchers, and participate in department and university service.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2022, a record of teaching success at the undergraduate level, evidence of scholarly promise and accomplishment, and a clear understanding of and strong commitment to teaching excellence and innovation at a liberal arts institution.
