JOB SUMMARY

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Theoretical Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics to join the research group of Prof. Anh-Thu Le in the Department of Physics at the University of Connecticut. Applicants are expected to have a strong background in ultrafast intense laser-matter interactions and scientific computing, and to participate in supporting ongoing experimental research in ultrafast processes in AMO science in the Department https://physics.uconn.edu/research/atomic-molecular-and-optical-physics/.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be stationed at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. They are expected to carry out theoretical and computational research in laser-controlled molecular ionization, dissociation, and strong-field processes such as high-harmonic generation, laser-induced electron diffraction, and attosecond transient absorption in collaboration with the other members of the group; communicate the results in scientific publications and conferences; and contribute to the writing of research proposals in support of the activities of the group.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in theoretical physics, chemistry, or related fields
  • A track record of original contributions to the field of AMO physics
  • Strong analytical and programming skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • A primary interest in pursuing a career in research
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in ultrafast intense laser-atom/molecule interactions
  • Experience in molecular photoionization
  • Experience with ab initio electronic-structure quantum chemistry packages (such as Gamess, Molpro, Gaussian).
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This position includes a competitive salary of $53,760 and benefits. The initial one-year appointment will begin on or after November 5, 2021. The position is renewable, depending on performance and funding.
