Assistant Professor of Sociology and Human Services

 

 

The Department of Sociology and Human Services in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Lynchburg, a private coeducational liberal arts university located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, is accepting applications for a three-year non-tenure track full-time appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in July 2022. 

 

 

The Department seeks an individual with exceptional potential as a teacher and scholar who can contribute to our undergraduate programs. The ideal candidate will hold a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Sociology, Social Work, or a related field. Special consideration will be given to those candidates with experience in teaching and/or a desire to teach courses in our human services program; courses in the Inequality, Diversity, and Social Change cognate of the Sociology program including Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, and Social Inequality and Oppression; courses in the Individuals, Families, and Society cognate of the Sociology program such as Sociology of the City or Deviance, Crime, and Social Control; and introductory and research courses in the Sociology program. Courses in our Department are well represented in the DELL General Education Curriculum, the Africana Studies Major, and other interdisciplinary programs at the University. Candidates with a passion for social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion are strongly encouraged to apply. 

 

 

The teaching load is typically four, three-credit-hour courses per semester (fall and spring). The University of Lynchburg offers a competitive salary with a generous benefits package. Salary is commensurate with experience and academic qualifications. Candidates must pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.
