Position Description

The Department of Music at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2022.

Department of Music

The Department of Music at California State University Dominguez Hills offers a B.A. in Music with options in Performance, General Music, and Music Education. A Bachelor of Music is currently going through the curriculum process. We have approximately 100 majors, six full-time faculty, and 17 part-time faculty. We seek applicants and nominations from those who have experience in teaching, mentoring, and developing research.

The Position

This position includes directing multiple choirs, teaching "activities" courses in voice, and giving individual voice lessons. Faculty members at CSUDH teach 9 units for the first two years and 12 units per academic year after that.

Responsibilities

Supervising and developing the voice area within the current B.A. in Music degree and the new Bachelor of Music degree. Teach undergraduate courses including individual lessons, beginning/intermediate/advanced voice classes, vocal workshop, and vocal & choral methods for music education students. Direct the University Chorus and Chamber Singers choral groups. Other responsibilities include recruiting, student advising, creative/scholarly activity, and service on various committees.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
    • Doctorate in Music, with at least one degree in Voice Performance or Choral Conducting.
    • Demonstrated extensive experience as a vocalist or conductor.
    • Evidence of commitment to teaching excellence and mentoring a diverse student population.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • International reputation as a performer and pedagogue.
    • Proven ability to recruit students.
    • Ability to teach and perform a variety of musical styles.
    • Experience with online teaching and instructional technology.

    Employment Requirement – Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
