The College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications at the rank of tenured professor for the Department Chair position in the Department of Sport Management.

The Department

The Department of Sport Management (SPM), established in 2019, is one of the leading departments in its discipline. Through distinctive and cutting edge technological approaches in teaching, research, and outreach, SPM seeks to improve the understanding of social, organizational, and environmental factors that lead individuals, families, and communities to value and benefit from sport, and thus develop and improve sustainable sport opportunities that enhance the quality of life for diverse local and global populations. The department includes 6 instructional and 7 tenure-track faculty, who are supported by award winning advisory and administrative staff. Faculty direct their productive and comprehensive research programs with more than 10 grants exceeding a total of $2 million in direct costs. Across residential and online programs, SPM reaches more than 900 students (583 undergraduate majors, 354 masters, and 17 doctoral students). The Sport Management online program was one of the first in the country, and is a thriving part of the department. We are seeking diverse candidates who can lead the Department using effective management, communication, and problem-solving skills to further nurture and advance the continued growth and outstanding caliber of the Department. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who display a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and excellence in our academic community.

Candidates must possess: (1) an earned doctorate; (2) a distinguished record of scholarly accomplishments in sport management;  (3) experience leading faculty, staff and students; and (4)  tenure at the Associate or Full Professor rank.

Preferred candidates will have a vision that encompasses directions for research, teaching and service within the Department, an innovative mindset, and the ability to support a productive  exchange with the College and University. Further, ideal candidates will be able to build collaborative bridges between academia and industry, nationally and internationally.

Responsibilities

The Chair serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the Department and reports to the Dean of the College. The Chair is responsible for strategic planning and vision; academic leadership; working with the faculty in curriculum development; managing Department budgets and personnel matters; working with the College’s Development officer; representing the Department within the College, the UF campus and to the state, national, and international communities. In addition to administrative duties, this position also has teaching and research responsibilities.
