Position Summary:

The University of Georgia invites applicants for a tenure track faculty position to begin in Fall 2022. This position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC; https://ccrc.uga.edu) and a home academic department of Franklin College (specifically Biochemistry & Molecular Biology). Scientists in the CCRC work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment fostered by interactions among diverse fields of research on biomedical glycoscience, plant and microbial glycoscience, and synthetic and analytical chemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to build or maintain a vibrant, extramurally funded research program that integrates with and leverages the synergistic and collaborative research environment at the CCRC and elsewhere at UGA. The individual will have access to a robust graduate student training program and undergraduate trainees, as well as the opportunity to participate in classroom education.

We seek outstanding scientists who are addressing fundamental biological problems whose research either complements or expands existing strengths in the Center, including state of the art Computational, NMR, and Mass Spectrometry infrastructure. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
● New analytical approaches to probe wall structure and structure-function relationships
● Plant cell wall biosynthesis, polymer assembly and wall remodeling during growth
● Cell biology of plant cell walls, including polymer trafficking and macromolecular assembly within the endomembrane system and in/at the wall
● Plant cell wall-microbe interactions, including microbial utilization or recognition of plant materials in the environment or in host models
● Cell wall structure-function in plant growth, form and response to biotic and abiotic stress

Competitive applicants will have at least two years of relevant postdoctoral research experience, a research record commensurate with appointment as an Assistant Professor, and a well-developed research plan. The research program of competitive candidates will relate to the following core mission at the CCRC – increasing knowledge of the structures, synthesis and functions of complex plant cell wall carbohydrates.
