Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Education, or related field. Five years of experience in instructional design, user experience design, or course development using emerging technologies, preferably in higher education or a related field. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Assists in the design and development of online professional learning, from fully online courses to individual digital learning objects for certifications, face-to-face, and blended courses.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assists and supports the design, development, and implementation of online professional learning, leveraging instructional technologies, user experience design principles, and pedagogical know-how. Manages assigned course workload using project management fundamentals. Consults with faculty and staff members to determine appropriate technology and strategies for course delivery, learning design, and tool usage. Helps coordinate SHSU Online services on behalf of the educator or staff member. Participates in continuing professional development activities. Facilitates faculty and staff development sessions as needed. Develops and conducts instructional technology workshops for faculty and staff as needed. Faculty and staff support may be provided via webinars, phone calls, virtual meetings, or face-to-face. Works closely with The Graduate School to curate curriculum through LinkedIn Learning. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Keeps current on emerging applications of instructional design, digital learning pedagogies, and instructional technology. Must foster and cultivate understanding of college level curriculum and ability to apply that understanding to course development and the creation of digital learning assets. Ability to design, develop, and implement instructional, digital, and multimedia products. Ability to work collaboratively including strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Skills of current computer technologies (desktop and cloud-based applications, web design, and multimedia). Must be a team player.

This is currently a remote position, that may turn to an on-campus position:

Remote position will maintain a regular, fixed schedule based on the institution’s needs and as approved by departmental leadership. All appointments and correspondence, across the institution and with students, will be in a digital/internet-based format (e.g., Zoom, official SHSU email, instant messenger, phone) as this position will not hold in-person sessions. Will be responsible for providing all work-related materials for job functions as a stipend will not be granted to purchase items needed to complete job functions. A computer with one monitor or a laptop will be provided.

Position is responsible for providing all work-related materials including, but not limited to:
Stable, secure internet connection
Web camera, with microphone capabilities
Additional monitor (optional – 2 monitors are recommended)
Printer (optional)
Scanner (optional)
Headset (optional)
Office supplies (e.g., pens, paper, paperclips, highlighters)

Position is responsible for ensuring workstation remains undisturbed and is FERPA compliant in order to maintain a positive relationship with their students. Employees are not permitted to work in public, unsecured workspaces (e.g., coffee shops, public airspaces). The primary communication with the University, advising office, students, college partners, etc. will be through email, phone calls, Zoom, and online submissions of digital forms.
