Web Developer/Assistant Director of Web Services (One Position to be Filled)

Alma College is accepting applications for the position of Web Developer/Assistant Director of Web Services (one position to be filled).

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Web Services is responsible for developing and maintaining web applications and related systems, and leading the Alma College development team.

Supervision Received/Supervision Exercised: This position reports to the Director of Information Technology Services and supervises a Web Developer.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides system analysis, design, programming, testing, documentation, and support for web services.
  • Works closely with the Director of ITS on project portfolio management, and prioritization.
  • Develops technical specifications, project and resource plans, project updates, and presentation materials.
  • Maintains an up-to-date source code catalog, repository, and comprehensive documentation for all ITS developed software.
  • Collaborates with the ITS infrastructure team on system cybersecurity issues, and web server operating system patching.
  • Responsible for web server environmental software patching, application patching, and cybersecurity issues related to web systems and services.
  • Provides project management for software development work.
  • Provides technical leadership for all campus web services.
  • Works collaboratively with other ITS teams and the campus community.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skill with current IT technologies, development best practices, and secure development principles
  • On occasion, must work after hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by Director of Information Technology Services.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline with three years programming experience
  • Demonstrable ability to develop database-driven web applications
  • Knowledge and experience with core web development tools such as HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, PHP, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, mobile first/responsive design, Office 365, C#, Linux, Apache, and Git
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to communicate and interact effectively with IT professionals and non-technical users

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with PHP frameworks such as Laravel and Symfony
  • Demonstrable ability to work effectively in an enterprise computer services department
  • Knowledge and experience integrating cloud and on-premises systems
  • Supervisory and project management experience
