Departmental Overview

The Cal Ballroom Sports Club team prides itself on being UC Berkeley's one and only competitive International Ballroom Dance Team and one of the largest teams on the West Coast. We offer Cal Students high quality dance instruction through our professional coaches and attend competitions throughout the state and nation. Our team members have both placed and won in national championships.

Responsibilities

The coach will be responsible for attending practices, running drills, and conducting private lessons.
Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Attending weekly practice sessions
  • Running well-structured group lessons
  • Analyzing performance and instructing athletes in skills, techniques, and strategies in preparation for and during competition
  • Keeping contact with dancers and club officers
  • Complying with USADance, NDCA, UC Berkeley and Cal Sport Clubs regulations
  • Maintaining a professional and positive presence in the ballroom community

Required Qualifications
  • Proven record of competitive ballroom teaching experience a minimum of 2 years
  • At least 4 years of competition experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with college-age athletes
  • Knowledge of current standard coaching techniques/strategies, as well as syllabus figures
  • Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of previous club coaching experience (high school level or above)

Salary & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for UC benefits plan.
