The AI & XR Learning Analytics Specialist will design, create, and manage a robust portfolio of analytics projects. This role will be critical in formulating strategies for solving complex business and learning problems. This position will help Unity College as it augments its emergent technology Research & Development (R&D) program by creating a learning analytics initiative, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to extract learning insights out of XR simulations.


  • Assist the Director of AR/VR Research and Development in the creation and prototyping of learning experiences and simulations that leverage AI/XR Learning Analytics.
  • Interface with the XR Development teams to extract the necessary data for the learning analytics project portfolio.
  • Research and develop artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning initiatives.
  • Design and develop learning analytics dashboards for non-technical colleagues to use in their research.
  • Provide technical project management expertise to subject matter experts and Distance Education faculty/staff.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and research partners to identify emerging applications of AI/XR Learning Analytics.
  • Facilitate understanding of the benefits, limitations, and opportunities of AI/XR Learning Analytics.
  • Identify funding opportunities to further the College's AI/XR related goals and objectives.
  • Pro-actively communicate challenges, successes, and failures with leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • B.S/B.A in data science, computer science, math, data engineering, spatial computing, 3D design, or related fields, or 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years of analytics, data engineering, AI or ML experience.
  • Ability to function effectively within a matrix organizational structure, maintaining open lines of communication while being discreet, courteous and well poised.


  • Experience with real-time engine software (Unity or Unreal Engine) and reasonably comfortable with relevant programming languages (C# or C++).
  • Knowledge and experience in software development practices and design, including the use of version control.
  • Familiarity with learning analytics dashboard creation, LRS (Learning Record Stores), and Learning Management Software (LMS) (e.g. Canvas).


Work hours are specific to the requirements of this position and can include days, evenings, and weekends. Working extended hours required as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities and meeting the College's needs. Although Unity College employees are generally scheduled to work at their specifically assigned locations, there are times when travel is necessary and employees are required from time to time to attend events, meetings or work temporary assignment at any Unity College location.


While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of either hand for repetitive movements such as grasping, grasping and turning, and fine manipulation is required as is the ability to use the telephone for internal and external communications.


Work is performed mostly in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate. Exposure to changes of temperature or humidity 1-33% of the time.
