Description:
The English Department at Clemson University invites applications for a 2-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Medieval studies, beginning January 2022. Duties will include developing and teaching undergraduate courses, including an undergraduate Shakespeare course, and possible graduate seminars, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The typical teaching load for a Visiting Assistant Professor is three courses per semester. Participation in the Clemson Humanities Hub's monthly New Professors Research Forum is encouraged.

The study of medieval literatures, spanning roughly a thousand years of world history and an astonishing breadth of languages and cultures, having been energized by critical interrogations of whiteness and race, is integral to the larger focus on race, empire, and diaspora that our department has identified as central to its strategic plans. For this reason, the search committee is especially interested to hear from candidates who bring to their research and teaching the diverse perspectives that come from non-traditional educational backgrounds or an understanding of the experience of those under-represented in higher education.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will hold a PhD in English Literature, Comparative Literature or Medieval Studies. We are especially interested in candidates whose research is in such areas as race, empire, diaspora, gender, and sexuality.
