The Office for Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (OIDEI) is the driving force behind CMU's commitment to creating a culture of belonging that leads to anti-racist ways of being where everyone exists in an equitable and inclusive environment. This diversity in action shows up in institutional policies, practices, and procedures that govern how we engage with one another.
The Director of Research, Evaluation, and Communication supports the development of OIDEI initiatives by collaborating with evaluators, practitioner-scholars, researchers, and community partners to develop an interdisciplinary action research plan and disseminate information on findings, promising practices, and interventions from original research to improve diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice efforts at Central Michigan University. With intersectionality as the cornerstone of their philosophy, the director supports the equity and inclusion of all identities, and respects the diverse views and experiences of our community. In total, the director is skilled in storytelling, where the narratives and lived experiences of students, faculty, staff, and community members are shared in ways that provide context and an interpretive frame within grant development, reports, manuscripts, and communications derived from within OIDEI.Bachelor's degree in higher education, education, evaluation, public health, counseling, cultural studies, or a relevant or closely related field of study.
Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in areas related to the duties & responsibilities of this position.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.
Demonstrated knowledge of the role social identity, power, and privilege in the social relations and infrastructure in institutions.
Demonstrated success in securing programmatic and research grants, as well as developing sustained relationships with funding agencies.
Ability to analyze data and communicate findings and impact advantageously.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, while projecting a positive attitude.
Ability to provide oversight for OIDEI communications strategies, including media inquiries, remarks, reports, manuscripts, and promotional publications.
Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relations with faculty, staff, students, and campus partners.
Ability to work independently and confidently.
Ability to work under pressure in a very busy environment and to manage multiple assignments that overlap in time.
Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
