Reporting to the Provost / Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean of Academic Affairs is part of the academic leadership team whose shared focus is the development, implementation and support of data informed innovative academic programs and initiatives that promote student access, equity and achievement. With these goals in mind, the Dean is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction in the following areas:

Institutional Effectiveness

  • Oversee the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to sustain relevant, high-quality data collection and analysis, research and evaluation.
  • In partnership with the Provost and other college stakeholders, lead the development and implementation of an integrated planning, assessment and evaluation system across the institution.
  • Collaborate with division and program heads in the development and execution of academic and non-academic program assessment plans and processes.
  • Serve as a strategic partner in the creation of an environment that promotes and supports using research and data analysis to guide decision making and institutional improvement through innovative and professional leadership in the college planning process, operational effectiveness and policy formation.
  • Oversee and assure accurate and timely institutional reporting to external constituencies and maintenance of data systems where necessary.
  • Utilize analytical tools to respond to internal and external requests for information, monitor institutional performance against local, regional and national benchmarks, conduct analyses to support college planning, enrollment management, program review and assessment.
  • Lead and coordinate on-going accreditation activities and continuous improvement efforts.

Academic Affairs

Represent the Office of the Provost on the development of policies, programs and projects.

  • Oversee Adjunct Faculty Services and the resource needs for adjunct faculty members across the five academic divisions on all campuses and satellites.
  • Oversee academic suspension and probation processes with an emphasis on data-driven decision making, an asset-based student development model, and targeted student supports.
  • Manage the curriculum implementation process in collaboration with the Curriculum Committee chairperson and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the online catalog and curriculum maps.
  • Oversee the academic calendar committee in the development of the Academic Calendar.
  • Oversee the onboarding of new fulltime and adjunct faculty, and the full-time and adjunct Division of Continuing Education (DCE) faculty evaluation processes for all five academic divisions.
  • Performs other related tasks as required


Job Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience including management of personnel and budgets, including effective management of professional staff and collaboration with faculty
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience; doctorate preferred
  • Proven leadership of a client-oriented service function at an institution of higher education
  • Strong analytical skills and quantitative and qualitative research knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated experience proactively utilizing data and research to identify and make recommendations on institutional issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills with the ability to shape complex information into presentations that are understandable to diverse audiences
  • Current knowledge of federal and state higher education policies, issues, regulations and trends
  • Successful track-record in managing accreditation activities
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population
  • Experience working with faculty in a shared governance environment


Additional Information:

Salary range: $125,000 - $130,000

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is a multi-campus urban institution, its main campus situated in the historic Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.
