Departmental Objective:

Effectively implement the University president’s vision for a world class campus that attracts, inspires, and bonds people to CNU. We will monitor and maintain all existing and future landscape plantings and ensure they are well maintained to the highest standards. Ensure that these primary duties will emphasize aesthetic appearance and value, is environmentally responsible, and economically feasible.

Purpose of the Position:

The Landscape Supervisor will assist the Director and Associate Director in the weekly, monthly, and annual planning and prioritizing of landscape requirements. The position will plan and supervise daily tasks which include installation, maintenance, pruning, watering, IPM, and pesticide/fertilizer applications related to landscape plantings to include equipment operation and maintenance for the said tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:

Required:

Considerable knowledge of horticulture plants and products related to planting, mulching, fertilization, pruning, weed control, transplanting and pest control

Ability to become a VDACS Certified Pesticide Applicator in Category 3-A within the first year of employment

Ability to read, understand, and implement pesticide and fertilizer product labels

Considerable knowledge of safe use and maintenance of various landscape tools and equipment

Considerable knowledge of various pesticides for controlling weeds, disease and insects as well as fertilizer products for growth enhancement

Considerable knowledge of turf and landscape irrigation requirements

Must be motivated and have ability to work independently and efficiently with little supervision

Good verbal and writing skills

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be a VDACS Registered Technician.

Experience Required: Considerable and progressive experience with landscape maintenance services such as planting, mulching, watering, pruning, and transplanting trees, flowers and shrubs. Considerable and progressive experience with chemical and fertilizer applications to landscape, beds, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Considerable and progressive experience with safe use and maintenance of landscape equipment such as skid steer, light utility vehicles, tillers, sod cutters, augers, and trailers. Supervisory experience. Experience applying pesticides to ornamentals or turf.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Education Preferred: Associate’s degree or higher in turfgrass, horticulture, or similar field. VDACS commercial applicator with 3A or 3B endorsement. VDACS certified fertilizer applicator.

Experience Preferred: Previous experience working at a resort or high-end landscape company with experience related to all aspects of landscape maintenance. Considerable experience with chemical and fertilizer applications.

Salary Information:

Starting at $40,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
