Departmental Objective:

Effectively implement the university president’s vision for a world class campus that attracts, inspires, and bonds people to CNU. We will monitor and maintain all existing and future irrigation systems, implement seasonal lawn care programs, and ensure all paver areas are well maintained to the highest standards. Ensure that these primary duties will emphasize aesthetic appearance and value, be environmentally responsible, and economically feasible.

Purpose of the Position:

This position will work independently to help implement and perform turfgrass maintenance tasks. The position is responsible for applying fertilizers and pesticides to lawn areas throughout the university. This position will participate in and lead seeding, sodding, and aerification of lawn areas and work on special projects as directed to facilitate grounds department needs.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:

Required:

Extensive knowledge of lawn care and horticultural products

Extensive knowledge of the safe, timely, and accurate application of pesticides, fertilizers, seeding and sodding requirements

Ability to read and understand pesticide and fertilizer product labels

Extension knowledge of various landscape and grounds maintenance tools and equipment

Knowledge of turf and landscape irrigation requirements

Must be motivated and have the ability to work independently and efficiently with little supervision

Good writing and verbal skills

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be a VDACS Registered Technician.

Experience Required: Extensive experience with chemical and fertilizer applications related to turfgrass and ornamentals. Extensive experience in operation of all types of grounds maintenance equipment.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Education Preferred: VDACS Certified 3B Pesticide Applicator. Certified Fertilizer Applicator. College degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or related field.

Experience Preferred: Experience as a Senior or Lead Groundskeeper and/or Foreman. Experience as a Technician at a university or resort. Experience with conventional and 2-wire irrigation systems: operation, repair, maintenance and installation.

Salary Information:

Starting at $34,700 (commensurate with education and experience)
