Position OverviewThe Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Kansas invites applications for a faculty position at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level with potential start date in August 2022.

We invite applications for a faculty position as a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of Immunology. We seek candidates with research interests in fundamental biological questions associated with any area of immunology and host responses. Preference will be given to candidates that have an interest in host-pathogen interactions whose research aligns with the NIH mission.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in relevant field and post-doctoral research experience. Applicants should demonstrate the potential to establish an independent, externally-funded research program, as evidenced by research products including preprints and publications, and a statement outlining research successes and future goals. As excellence in inclusive education and mentoring is a priority for our academic scientists, applicants should convey approaches and interests in these areas. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment.
Job Description40% RESEARCH
Maintain an active and productive research program that includes:
1) Obtaining external research funding,
2) Publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and
3) Presenting findings at professional conferences.

40% TEACHING/ADVISING
1) Educate undergraduate and graduate students in formal biology courses,
2) Participate in the academic advising of undergraduate and graduate students, and
3) Mentor students in research, including serving as a dissertation/thesis director and professional mentor for students.

20% SERVICE
1) Serve on committees at the Departmental, College, and/or University levels as the opportunities arise,
2) Participate in professional service, and
3) Participate in departmental meetings.

Faculty members are expected to meet satisfactory standards of performance in all three areas of responsibility and to carry out those responsibilities in accordance with the Faculty Code of Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct. Required QualificationsEvaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of doctoral and postdoctoral experiences in the letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity described in curriculum vita, (3) statements of research plans and educational/mentoring interests and plans, and (4) contact information for three professional references:
  1. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biological Sciences or closely related discipline.
  2. 2 years of post-doctoral experience.
  3. Publications in peer-reviewed journals with innovative research objectives that demonstrate potential for excellence in research.
  4. Commitment to teaching courses in the life sciences, as evidenced by educational background and statement of teaching philosophy.
