Social Media Editor/Producer - Athletics

General Description:

The position will serve as social media content creator for Tennessee Athletics with an emphasis on Tennessee Football.  The person hired will be responsible for collaborating with various teams and people on creative ideas to help build the Tennessee brand and profile in the social media space.  Teamwork, Communication, Cinematography and editing will be critical skills for this position.  This person will need to be flexible regarding the work schedule.  Night, weekend, and holiday work will happen often.  Travel will also be required.  In addition, this position will assist with several of the television and web-based shows this unit produces.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with all members of the Football Creative Team to enhance the brand of Tennessee Football through in-venue entertainment, Podcasts and social media.  Tell stories of the student-athletes, the program and staff through various channels, constantly evaluate & enhance content.  Stay in tune with overall football schedule, working closely with Media Relations, Fan Experience, Football Staff & all 151 creatives to tell stories & build the brand of Tennessee Football.
  • Cinematography - Work with creative team to establish plan for coverage of events, including pre-season photo/video shoot.  Shooting games, practices, and interviews will be a crucial responsibility for this position.  Creative videography is a must in this role.  This person should have experience with higher-end camera gear such as Amira and Varicam, as well as experience with DSLR cameras.
  • Post Producer / Editor - Composing fun & entertaining video pieces that target a younger audience will be key in this roll.  This person will need to bring an energetic editing style with a creative story-telling flair to the videos produced.  Many projects will be on a strict deadline so it will be imperative for this person to be able to edit quickly and efficiently without sacrificing creativity. This position also serves as the key editor and director for all Tennessee Football & Tennessee Athletics Podcasts.
  • Media Management - Organizing footage by labeling and copying files to master drives.  This is a critical role for our group to be able to multipurpose footage that is acquired. Communicate across the creative team to ensure open lines of communication on content available & content locations.
  • Assist with other various Tennessee projects.  Projects geared to enhancing the overall brand of Tennessee, as well as post-season collaboration to help enhance all sports content. Other duties as assigned by VFL Films, including events on nights & weekends, as well as select Vol Network projects. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:


Associate’s Degree is required. Bachelor’s Degree in broadcasting, television/video production, communications, or a related creative field is preferred.



Minimum of 1 year of experience in shooting/editing/content creation for a sports organization.  Minimum of 2 years of experience in shooting/editing/content creation for a sports organization is preferred. 



  • Knowledge of various camera types and formats is critical.  Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and Avid Editing software is a must.  Knowledge of various social media platforms, content for each platform & how best to tell stories/enhance brand per platform.
  • Must be skilled in sports videography and both short-form and medium length editing for sports.  Must be skilled on all podcast technology and any new product to enhance use of social media.
  • Must have the ability to work with others in a challenging, deadline-driven environment.  Must be able to troubleshoot and solve problems without drop-off in content creation.
  • Technical directing skills, shooting live sports events, and sports editing skills are preferred
