Position SummaryThe Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for two open-rank tenure-stream faculty positions, academic year basis, for expanding its research, teaching, and consulting missions.
The positions will be filled at a rank commensurate with the qualifications and records of the successful candidates. Required qualifications include having a Ph.D. in Statistics/Biostatistics or related quantitative disciplines and having previous research experience. For the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor, teaching experience and an established record of securing extramural funding is also required.
The successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain a vigorous independent and collaborative research program, participate in teaching and mentoring graduate students and junior faculty and providing statistical consulting to graduate students and faculty in the Department, the College of Human Medicine, and other units at the University.
We have interests in candidates with research expertise in several areas, including, but not limited to, design and analysis of randomized clinical trials, statistical genetics, quantitative modeling of infectious diseases, comparative effectiveness, causal inference, and healthcare studies. Candidates should have training and experience in developing and applying novel statistical methodologies to the health sciences. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the motivation to act as a team member in collaborative research ventures are also required.
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is part of the College of Human Medicine–the allopathic medical school at MSU. The Department has a growing number of faculty –currently 28– working on a broad range of research topics, including health services research, longitudinal and correlated data analysis, survival analysis, statistical genetics, causal inference, and analyses of non-experimental or quasi-experimental data. Our faculty have vibrant research collaborations within the Department and with other units throughout the University, including Statistics & Probability, Obstetrics/Gynecology/Reproductive Biology, Pediatrics, Food Science & Nutrition, Veterinary Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Nursing, and Economics.
