Research Assistant II, DNA Processing - Georgetown University Medical Center

As one of approximately 140 academic health and science centers in the United States, Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) seeks to provide, in a synergistic fashion, excellence in education - training physicians, nurses and other health care professionals, as well as biomedical scientists - and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research collaboration, enhancing our basic science and translational biomedical research capacity in order to improve human health.

The Research Assistant II performs laboratory testing, processing, and administration, and supports various laboratory activities, and assists with day-to-day lab duties, as assigned. Reporting to the Lab Manager, interacting with other technicians and supervisor within their assigned laboratory, as well as with other lab sections, the Research Assistant II has duties that include but are not limited to:

Testing and Processing
  • Conduct molecular testing and/or DNA processing of samples
  • Test HLA genes and/or other genetic markers
  • Evaluate lab results
  • Maintain and ensure accurate test records
  • Cross-train in other lab sections, as assigned

Lab Administration
  • Perform required equipment and laboratory cleaning and maintenance
  • Deliver and restock samples
  • Comply with ASHI, HIPPA, Georgetown University and program standards

Lab Support
  • Assist Project manager with equipment maintenance/cleaning
  • Assist Project Manager in unpacking and redistribution of equipment and supplies in labs
  • Assist Project Manager with biological waste disposal

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field.
  • Good computer skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Attention to detail

Preferred qualification

1 to 2 years in clinical lab setting
