The Leder Human Biology (LHB) Program at Harvard Medical School (HMS) is seeking an innovative, collaborative early-career science educator to provide broad curricular and academic support to LHB, a translational medicine certification for HMS biomedical PhD students. The Curriculum Fellows Program is a postdoctoral service and training program focused on curriculum development, teaching, and educational programming in the biological and biomedical sciences at Harvard Medical School (HMS). Curriculum Fellows work closely with members of the HMS faculty and administration to develop, deploy, and evaluate evidence-based graduate training. Fellows also receive mentorship and career advising to support their development as educators and help them succeed in a variety of education-focused careers. Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the faculty directors of the Leder Human Biology program at Harvard Medical School to organize, teach, and evaluate courses required for the translational medicine certification
  • Serve as Associate Course Director in BCMP 234 (Cellular Metabolism and Human Disease), one of the required semester-length courses for the LHB Program. Manage and mentor the course’s Teaching Fellows and help lead critical reading sections
  • Provide support and guidance for student-organized para-curricular activities associated with the Leder Human Biology program
  • Catalyze and evaluate initiatives to improve biomedical education across Harvard Medical School, and make evidence-based recommendations to faculty and teaching staff on curricular design
  • Support a short course on Case Studies in Human Biology

Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in a field relevant to biology, biochemistry, or the biomedical sciences
  • Experience teaching graduate or undergraduate science courses
  • Advanced knowledge of or training in translational biomedical sciences (preferred)
  • Postdoctoral research in a field relevant to the translational sciences (preferred)

Job Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple faculty with the purpose of organizing a semester-long course in cellular metabolism and human disease
  • Experience applying evidence-based teaching methods and technological innovations to the classroom and working with faculty members to develop effective teaching strategies
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Commitment to the professional development and mentorship of PhD students in the Leder Human Biology program

Fellowships are intended for early-career scientist-educators. The CF appointment is renewable annually for a maximum of three years and is non-tenure-track. Fellows are appointed as Research Fellows and typically earn promotion to the rank of Lecturer during the term of the fellowship. The LHB Curriculum Fellow position is open for an immediate start.
