USD School of Law is one of the 84 law schools elected to the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for law school graduates. The law school's faculty is a strong group of outstanding scholars and teachers with national and international reputations and currently ranks in the top 20% (36th out of 204) among U.S. law schools in scholarly impact according to a 2018 study. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. Founded in 1954, the law school is part of the University of San Diego, a private, independent, Roman Catholic university chartered in 1949.

Detailed Description:	
The Assistant Director of Development is a key member of the Development and Alumni Relations staff of the School of Law. Reporting to the Director of Development, the incumbent is responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift prospects with a giving capacity of $25,000 or more and conducting regular face-to-face meetings to cultivate and solicit support to meet law school fundraising priorities and goals. The incumbent will also be assigned a variety of other projects and responsibilities that support the development goals and initiatives of the School of Law.

Duties and Responsibilities

Major and Leadership Annual Gifts

Develops and manages a portfolio of major gift prospects with a giving capacity of $25,000 or more and conducts regular face-to-face meetings to cultivate and to solicit support to meet law school fundraising priorities and goals.
Identifies, cultivates, and solicits philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with alumni and other potential donors to the law school.
Develops fundraising strategies and methods or activities to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship of donors.
Manages the personal renewal of Maudsley Fellows Society (MFS) donors and develops and implements strategies to upgrade MFS donors to higher levels of giving.
Draft a variety of development related correspondence, gift proposals and stewardship reports to prospective and current donors.

Law Firm Challenge

Manages the Law Firm Challenge program, including recruitment of new law firms to the program, development of program materials and training of volunteers.
Establishes goals and strategies to increase participation and donations from the Law Firm Challenge.
Reunion Giving Campaigns

Recruits reunion gift committee for reunion classes.
Establishes reunion class gift goals and strategies.
Solicits volunteers for leadership gifts.
Manages and train reunion gift committee members.
Reports results to reunion class year members.

Volunteer Boards

Staffs the Board of Visitors including scheduling of bi-annual board meetings and staffing of the Steering Committee.
Manages all logistics for BOV meetings including recruitment of guest speakers.
Prepares materials for BOV meetings including preparation of meeting materials and completion of meeting minutes.
Assists the Board with recommending and researching potential new members.

Miscellaneous

Assists with commencement, graduation awards, training other staff on office operations and procedures as needed.
The position involves some planning and attendance of events related to the duties described herein that require the ability to travel off campus and out of the city and the ability to work evenings and/or weekends. This may include frequent morning and evening events with travel out of the area (regionally and nationally).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of three years development experience at an administrator or professional level in higher education or non-profit setting. Development experience may be substituted for equivalent roles in areas like sales or business development.
Self-starter with good project management skills and the ability to exercise good judgment in advancing projects toward completion
Strong people-skills and the ability to work collaboratively; substantive experience working with volunteers and volunteer boards is strongly desired

Performance Expectation - Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with volunteers, donors and colleagues.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including competency in spoken and written English grammar
Strong organizational and planning skills for balancing multiple campaigns and tasks
Skill in operating and understanding donor database systems
Knowledge of higher education fund raising and annual programs
Ability to understand and demonstrate an extremely high level of sensitivity to customer relations and embrace a donor-centric philosophy
Ability to exercise good judgment, problem solving and decision-making
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational skills
Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently on projects with minimal supervision
Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel
