Job Description Summary

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the Center for Global Engagement, maintains responsibility for activities related to the international student services and study abroad functions for the University. Successful Assistant/Associate Directors possess unique communication skills and exhibit core values that effectively engage and inform international and domestic students in an organic, student-focused style, establishing rapport and building trust.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

International Student Services & DSO

  • Provide advising services to international students to assist them in complying with federal regulations governing their legal status in the US;
  • Communicate on behalf of the University with federal agencies including the US citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of State, Department of Labor, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), and others as appropriate and necessary;
  • Serve as a Designated School Official and therefore must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident;
  • Advising and assisting international scholars regarding complex immigration and visa regulations
  • Perform SEVIS Compliance actions and reports;
  • Develop and implement training and information sessions/materials on regulatory topics such as employment and practical training, travel and re-entry, maintenance of non-immigrant status, and other issues of concern to non-immigrants;
  • Attend and participate in professional development activities and meetings of peer international education associations and organizations;
  • Maintain skills, knowledge and best practices of regulatory immigration compliance in order to remain current in the law and regulations impacting international students, scholars, and employees.

Study Abroad & ARO

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and using available resources to implement all aspects of study abroad at Saint Leo University;
  • Travel as a representative of Saint Leo University to secure new international study abroad agreements;
  • Serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer with the Exchange Visitor program within the State Department and in SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Information System) and therefore must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident;
  • Promotes Study Abroad during campus events through tabling, presentations, and open houses;
  • Provides and implements pre-departure orientations to facilitate success for participants in a cross-cultural environment;

Overview of Skills:

  • Communication: initiate tracked and documented telephone / email contact with international and domestic students to ensure that students receive personal verbal and written communication; document each telephone and email contact. Outstanding speaking, writing and listening skills are required.
  • Confidentiality: must safeguard the confidentiality of student, staff and University information by exercising discretion in managing records and communication with faculty, staff, parents, alumni and current and prospective students.
  • Professionalism: must demonstrate the highest professional demeanor and ethical behavior.
  • Ensure compliance with all Saint Leo policies and all federal, state and accreditation requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Proven ability to work with both traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Proven ability to establish rapport with students, faculty, alumni, employers and staff colleagues.
  • Remain current regarding external market conditions and best practices
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and strong typing and data entry skills
  • Ability to problem solve working with peers and independently.
  • Demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior in working with confidential information.
  • Detail oriented and able to complete work assignments accurately and on time.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a high-volume fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prepare presentations and reports.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to process changes and learn new procedures.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience with study abroad programs and establishing international partnerships at a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience with international recruitment and international university-sponsored travel at a regionally accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated success working with students or customers in a highly professional and student/customer oriented environment?
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting of 25-35 lb. rolling carriers and boxes of recruitment materials.
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time.
  • Extensive phone work and email keying.

Organization
