Job Description
The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) is seeking outstanding candidates for positions of Instructor or Research Associate with skills in Data Science, Analysis of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Computer vision to join our team of epidemiologists, bioinformaticians and clinicians interested in mechanisms of carcinogenesis, early detection, screening and prevention of cancer. The position offers an intensive, mentored research training experience in global oncology. Successful candidates will be encouraged to support the research of the investigators and develop their own research programs in global oncology, omics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

This is an exempt, regular position and offers a generous benefits package that includes 22 vacation days, 14 floating and observed holidays, 15 sick days; comprehensive health insurance and retirement options; and tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any of the University System of Maryland schools.

Responsibilities:

    Work collaboratively to support implementation of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve understanding and mechanisms of carcinogenesis and identify new targets for preventive and therapeutic interventions Utilize public and research databases to interpret data and answer key research questions in the aforementioned areas Participate in team and consortia meetings and implement projects that support the objectives of the lab. Disseminate research findings by presenting at meetings and publications in high-impact peer reviewed journals Support development of training programs that integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning with epidemiological and omics research data Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications
Qualifications:

    Ph.D. or MD or equivalent doctoral degree in biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, or bioinformatics or related fields, or Master’s degree and portfolio of health related data science projects Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to identify, implement and modify algorithms and packages used for Machine learning/Artificial Intelligence, Image recognition and classification. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
