The Human Resources Business Partner is expected to provide broad level support to the Office of Human Resources at Claremont McKenna College in the areas of leave administration, safety, training and development, recruiting, employee relations, benefit administration, and general office administration to a diverse employee base.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Business Partner will work independently to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Recruiting and Onboarding – Provides general recruiting support, including reviewing job descriptions, preparing job postings, posting ads, answering questions regarding the recruiting process and conducts reference checks, prepares offer letters. Conducts new employee orientation sessions, reviews policies and benefits and assists new employees in completing required forms. Processes request for temporary agency employees, coordinates with departments to ensure proper documentation and approval.
Employee Relations – Supports departments across the College with regard to human resources and employee relations issues. Performs investigations as necessary to support employee relations work. Partners with department leaders to respond to employee concerns.
Leave Administration – Administers the College’s leave of absence policies. Communicates with employees and explains leave of absence policies, benefits and procedures. Prepares proper correspondence and tracks leaves of absence in coordination with applicable policies and leave laws. Works with the TCCS Benefits Office to coordinate information.
Safety – Receives and reviews employee and employer reports of incidents and injuries. Ensures forms are completed properly and investigates injuries and incidents for root cause. Summarizes findings and identifies opportunities for improvement and provides recommendations for follow-up. Maintains documents as required by OSHA. May schedule ergonomic evaluations and track equipment requests. Tracks employee safety training and maintains training records.
Benefits Open Enrollment – Provides support to employees with regard to benefit open enrollment each year. Coordinates and attends benefit information sessions in conjunction with the TCCS Benefit Office. Assists employees with online open enrollment system.
Training and Development – Arranges and supports training sessions for employees in such areas as safety, time management, retirement issues, benefit programs, employee policies, and other programs of interest to staff.
General Office Administration – Works to keep the handbook up to date. Updates the web page. Works collaboratively and provides back up support for the Human Resources Administrative Assistant and Human Resources front desk. Other duties may include but are not limited to answering phones, filing, copying, preparing mailings and other correspondence for distribution. Provides some bilingual Spanish translation as needed to support the employees of the College

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Human Resources Development or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 – 5 years of Human Resources Business Partner experience supporting a fast-paced environment with highly diverse employee base, managing multiple priorities and responsibilities and interaction with employees in all level of the organization.
Experience with Workday highly preferred. Experience in higher education also preferred.
LICENSES: A valid driver’s license is required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge skills and abilities.
Knowledge of California Wage and Hour Laws is required.
Bi- lingual in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
Ability to deploy professional skills in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College’s strategic interests and the goals of the department.
Ability to work effectively as a team with HR Staff, department managers and employees.
Ability to share and discuss ideas, solutions and suggestions with the common objective of selecting the best course of action.
Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, customer service and leadership skills. Follow all written and verbal instructions, ask questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments.
Operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint and other associated professional software such as Workday and Kronos. Possess the ability to conduct internet research if necessary.
Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, excellent professional judgment, courtesy and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Define and prioritize realistic and specific goals and objectives, perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines/schedules, solve problems, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College’s strategic vision and the department’s annual goals.
Use exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. This is a 12-month position.
