Departmental Objective:

Effectively implement the university president’s vision for a world class campus that attracts, inspires, and bonds people to CNU. We will monitor and maintain all existing and future irrigation systems, implement seasonal lawn care programs, and ensure all paver areas are well maintained to the highest standards. Ensure that these primary duties will emphasize aesthetic appearance and value, be environmentally responsible, and economically feasible.

Purpose of the Position:

This position will be a working crew member, coordinating with supervisors, each daily task. It will be responsible for the maintenance of all existing and future landscape plantings on campus in designated areas to enhance the visual beauty of the university while promoting healthy vigorous plant growth through environmentally sustainable methods.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:

Required:

Advanced knowledge of horticultural maintenance services

Advanced knowledge of safe use and maintenance of various landscape management tools and equipment

Advanced knowledge of safe use of environmentally safe herbicides and pesticides for controlling insects, weeds, and plant diseases

Advanced skills to lead small working crews

Good writing and verbal skills

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Possess and maintains a valid driver’s license. Must have a VDACS Registered Technician certification or VDACS Commercial Pesticide Applicators License, Category 3-A or 3-B.

Experience Required: Experience with at least three horticultural maintenance services to include: plant id, planting, mulching, watering, fertilizing, pruning, transplanting, and/or insect/weed disease control. Advanced experience with the safe use of equipment and pesticides and maintenance of landscape equipment. Advanced experience at a landscape company in grounds maintenance. Advanced experience with landscape maintenance equipment.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Experience Preferred: Experience leading a small crew. Experience in landscape maintenance in a university or resort setting.

Salary Information:

Starting at $27,600 (commensurate with experience)
