Departmental Objective:

To provide excellent food and services to resident and students, faculty and staff.

Purpose of the Position:

Under the direction of the DSU Dining Operations Manager and the Sous Chef/Production Managers, prepares or produces assigned menu items by reading and comprehending recipes. Assigns and monitors jobs of subordinate personnel. To perform other duties as assigned to include but not limited to line serving and cleaning.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:

Required:

Ability to read and write

Demonstrated basic math skills

Knowledge of all types of cooking methods by reading and converting recipes

Knowledge of all kitchen equipment

Good organizational skills

Ability to complete multiple tasks concurrently

Ability to communicate in writing or verbally to both supervisors and subordinates

Ability to work in congested work areas and areas where wet processes are used

Ability to wear protective footwear

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required: High school graduate or equivalent

Experience Required: Previous experience in high volume feeding. Supervisory experience working in a high volume production kitchen.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Education Preferred: ServSafe certified. Coursework or training in culinary arts or equivalent practical experience.

Experience Preferred: Previous experience at a college or university. Experience in a high volume kitchen.

$21,800 - $25,800
