The Security Division within the CNU Police Department is responsible for the safety and security of the faculty, staff, students, guests and the property of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Christopher Newport University.Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the University Police Department with providing physical security for designated locations and events.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) and/or Competencies required and preferred:

Ability to flex to buildings / areas on campus as business need dictates
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions
Ability to understand the CNU Police Department rules and regulations
Ability to work under adverse weather conditions, stand, walk, climb, carry and lift at least 20 lbs. for extended periods of time
Ability to work rotating shifts, day, nights, weekends and holidays
Basic knowledge of general office practices, procedures and equipment
Good interpersonal communication and public contact skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to successfully pass a thorough background investigation to determine suitability to work with restricted law enforcement information
Ability to successfully complete the Department of Criminal Justice Services Campus Security Officer certification
Ability to work under pressure in response to emergency situations
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and the public
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to make decisions consistent with the mission and function of the CNU Police Department and university

This is an HOURLY position and does NOT entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and is limited to 1500 hours in a 365-day period;
