The Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Social and Behavioural Health Sciences. The expected start date is July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.


The Division of Social and Behavioural Health Sciences seeks an exceptional public health scholar with a PhD or an equivalent doctoral degree in a social or health science by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose scholarship encompasses critical race studies, post-colonial studies, Black Studies, Indigenous knowledge/Indigenous ways of knowing to frame studies of the embodiment of racial inequality, racial inequities as social determinants of health, racial inequality within health related institutions, organizations and professions and other public health related issues.

We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests expand and complement our strengths (see http://www.dlsph.utoronto.ca/). The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an innovative, outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program in public health. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach methods courses (quantitative or qualitative) with a preference for quantitative research methods, to teach in the field of health promotion and to supervise graduate students in our MPH and PhD programs.

Candidates must provide evidence of a record of research excellence as demonstrated by publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing. Candidates need to demonstrate, through their application materials, the ability to influence policy and practice through the production of scholarship and the effective translation of knowledge. Evidence of the ability to obtain grant funding is also required.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellent teaching ability as shown through teaching accomplishments and awards, the teaching dossier to include a teaching statement, teaching evaluations, and sample course materials, and strong letters of reference.

It houses the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation, the Waakebiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health, major initiatives related to Healthy Cities, Big Data for Health, Quality Improvement, and Clinical Public Health, partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto that comprise the largest health-science research complex in Canada, alliances with multiple international partners and a central location in one of the most dynamic, multi-ethnic and cosmopolitan cities in the world.
