Job Summary:
  • Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 2. The primary function of this position is all phases of day to day maintenance and repair of university dormitories, townhouses and apartments and equipment related to that maintenance.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school graduation or GED
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
  • Completion of a recognized trades apprenticeship program or a minimum of 5 years work experience in carpentry; electrical; plumbing; HVAC
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Plumbing experience
  • HVAC with residential experience ( heat pump)

Responsibility / Duty: 1.      Perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and light construction of buildings, mechanical and trades. 2.      Perform maintenance, repair on all types of mechanical equipment to include drive motors and light electrical repair of equipment related to dormitory maintenance. 3.      Perform work in all types of locations including dorm rooms, mechanical rooms, confined spaces, ceiling areas and crawl spaces for example.4.      Arrive at job site with the proper tools, parts and equipment necessary to perform the tasks required to complete the job as assigned. 5.      Responsible in keeping all tools and equipment in working condition, to include vehicle, hand and specialty tools.6.      Keep all job sites uncluttered and safe. Clean work area at the end of every day and the completion of job.7.      Complete all projects in a timely manner consistent with the expectations set at the start of the job. If anything should arise that would impact this time schedule supervision should be made aware.8.      The AiM work order system is the accountability tool used within Facilities and Planning. All staff will use AiM as intended to track, request and manage shop operations and individual daily assigned work. 9.      Adhere to all University and shop policies applicable. Report to work and be ready at start of shift. Make sure you arrive at work properly attired to be able to work in all conditions. Arrange all leave in advance and notify supervision the need for sick leave as soon as possible. Take all breaks at the assigned times when possible and adhere to the applicable start and stop times.10.  Represent the shop, department and University in a professional manner during all interactions with the campus community (students, staff and other trades).11.  Communicate with shop and department supervision effectively relating to shop and department needs and other items of interest. Additional Duties1.      Assist in organization of materials and shop equipment. Assist with shop clean up, and participate with efforts to keep the shop neat, organized and in an orderly fashion.2.      Participate in shop meetings with input on operational issues that may enhance the performance of the shop and department.3.      Perform related duties as directed.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Successful candidate must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Successful candidate must be able to pass a pre-placement physical.



  • All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

  • This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Salary Information: $52,476 - $59,460
