Health Advocacy Program Director

Sarah Lawrence College is seeking a Program Director to assess and implement a renewed direction for the College's hybrid/online Health Advocacy master's program. The Program Director will also advise the College on the direction of its Health Advocacy offerings more generally, pursue a growth strategy towards new programs and enrollments in Health Advocacy and related fields, and pursue collaborations with other College offerings in Health Sciences & Society.

Sarah Lawrence College has, since its founding, emphasized the importance of considering human development in the context of social structures in order to better understand—and improve—the health and well-being of all people. The Health Advocacy Program, the nation's first master's degree program in its field, was founded in 1980, and has prepared professionals to serve individuals and communities in hospital and other clinical settings, in community health programs, and in community-based organizations to improve both individual and community health access and overall health.

The Program Director will be responsible for reviewing and coordinating the re-launch of the college's long-established Health Advocacy Program as a core component of its offerings in a nascent Health Sciences and Society collaborative of professional programs that includes the nation's oldest and largest Genetic Counseling degree and its signature Dance/Movement Therapy degree. The Program Director will be asked to build meaningful collaborations across these and other areas of the College.

The Program Director will create and implement new offerings that leverage the resources presented by existing programs, as well as cultivating partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and other health care services. They will be directly responsible for increasing the accessibility of our offerings in Health Sciences and Society to a more diverse group of practitioners and professionals through professional development programming, certificate programs, and other relevant educational programming for pre-bac, post-bac, and post-grad students health care practitioners across diverse fields of work and study, and community-based organization leaders and members. The Program Director reports to the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies and will work collaboratively with the Provost and other graduate program directors.

Responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing the future growth of Health Advocacy and related fields across the College
  • Building strategic partnerships with healthcare, higher education, and other institutions
  • Identifying and securing outside funds, including scholarships and grants
  • Initiating, implementing, and evaluating professional development programming, certificate programs, and other relevant educational programming for pre-bac, post-bac, and post-grad students, health care practitioners across diverse fields of work and study, and community-based organization leaders and members
  • Collaborating with other programs and offices at the college, including Human Genetics, Dance/Movement Therapy, and other related disciplines
  • Overseeing curriculum development, program reviews, and accreditation processes
  • Hiring and coordinating faculty and administrative staff
  • Managing budgets and personnel
  • Recruiting and retaining students, including managing the application and review process for graduate students
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with fieldwork and internship sites and continuing to evaluate the effectiveness of these placements.
  • Developing, managing, and strengthening alumni relationships

Requirements:

An M.S., M.A., M.P.H, or Ph.D. in a health-related field is required. The successful candidate will have experience in hospital and/or other clinical settings, community health programs, and/or community-based organizations focused on improving individual and community health access. Prior experience in program administrationand an understanding of and experience in online and hybrid learning at the graduate level are preferred. Knowledge of and experience in genetics and/or genomics is a plus. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is required. The Program Director role is an administrative faculty position and is not tenure-eligible.
