Hollins University is seeking qualified, team-oriented candidates for two full-time security dispatchers. These front-facing positions serve and collaborate with the campus community 24 hours/day, 365 days/year, and interact with students, employees, guests, and visitors. Dispatchers work a variety of shifts, which may include rotating or permanent shift assignments, as well as holiday and weekend work. The current vacancies work (1) Sunday through Wednesday from 3:30-11:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and (2) Sunday and Monday from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 3:30-11:30 p.m. Full-time employees are eligible for health and life insurance, paid time off, retirement plan, and tuition assistance benefits.

Primary responsibilities include handling incoming emergency and non-emergency requests for campus security, police, fire, and emergency medical services, and designated university staff, and dispatching Campus Security and other university employees. Dispatchers monitor a variety of radio frequencies, cameras, and alarm systems, and serve as a vital link to personnel deployed. They are also responsible for issuing university identification cards, keys, and equipment and for maintaining records and files.

Successful applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of one year of related work experience, and proficient computer skills. Candidates must also have strong verbal and written communication skills including listening effectively; relating well to others; collecting and documenting information quickly, accurately, and thoroughly; and writing succinct reports. Additionally, applicants must have excellent multitasking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, as well as abilities to work independently and as a team member, and remain levelheaded and provide support during emergencies and crises. Also needed is a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging and a willingness to learn and grow in the position. Final candidates will be subject to a background investigation, including a criminal history background check.
