Position Summary Located 45 minutes from the Nation’s Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a two-time Aspen Award-winning institution (top 15% of Community Colleges) with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. Requires highly analytical, technical and detailed oriented skills. The individual in this position is the primary point of contact for the Velocity Center’s makerspace educational programming. The Director represents the Department to the community and develops, plans, organizes and manages programs, courses and services for adults and youth. The director establishes relationships with local community organizations to ensure needs are being met and to launch and manage successful programs. He/she is responsible for identifying, developing and maintaining a qualified instructor base of part-time instructors and/or highly qualified volunteers necessary to deliver high quality technical training programs. Professional development, evaluation of staff and programs, management of related budgets.

The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility is required.

Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:

  • Develops a business model of operation including all aspects of relevant credit-free courses and services.
  • Establish and manage relationships with key stakeholders including: the Navy, private sector companies, local economic development offices, and the Town of Indian Head
  • Develop organize and implement programs relating to entrepreneurship, innovation and technology development
  • Institute an informal lecture/speaker series on the issues of entrepreneurship, innovation and technology transfer
  • Manage makerspace membership enrollment, access and utilization
  • Course development and classroom instruction
  • Develop a network of partners who can help promote the vision of the Velocity Center
  • Must be a hands-on person.
  • Awareness and enthusiasm for STEM and STEAM education.
  • Ability to appreciate and recognize new opportunities in and for the community at large and pivot program proposals to address emerging opportunities/needs.
  • Oversee the management and operations of the CSM Velocity Center programming efforts
  • Develop and manage both project-based and long-term strategic partnerships between and within government and private sector organizations
  • Provides leadership in the development, promotion, operation and evaluation of departmental activities including all aspects of relevant credit-free courses.
  • Recruits qualified adjunct permanent faculty, managing onboarding process, professional development and instructor evaluations
  • Program review and evaluation
  • Develops and maintains an annual budget, monitors expenditures
  • Attends state and local meetings and serves on community college committees and/or workgroups as appropriate.
  • Creates and maintains a customer service and support culture of excellence.
  • Interfaces with CWD Operations to enters courses, proof schedule of classes and strictly adhering to course production timeline.
  • Responsible for all data entry and data integrity, ensuring accuracy of CWD related information within the colleges ERP system, including courses, sections, and program data
    Additional Duties:

    Performs other related work as required Minimum Education and Training
  • Bachelor degree required, Master's preferred
  • Documented experience in working with the military, educational entities, government and industry
  • 5 – 10 years of entrepreneur/business experience Minimum Qualifications and Standards RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong project and program management experience
  • Strong database management and educational computer program application skills
  • Prior experience or at least familiarity with traditional mechanical conceptualization, capture and design methods, such as Solidworks and Autodesk
  • Evidence of strong leadership and customer service skills.
  • Maintenance of insurability under the college’s vehicle liability insurance plan.

    Physical Requirements:
    The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
