Job Summary:
The School of Professional Accounting, in the College of Professional Programs at Eastern Washington University, invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor for the School of Professional Accounting, to begin mid-September 2022.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive institution where excellent teaching must be supplemented with an appropriate research program. The primary teaching area for this position will be accounting in the undergraduate and graduate programs. An ongoing research program and committee service to the university, college, and department is required for tenure track appointments. Advising students is also required by this position.

Faculty offices may be in the Catalyst building, adjacent to downtown Spokane in the University District, or on the Cheney campus, but all faculty are expected to be available to teach at both locations. Additionally, the candidate selected for this position will be expected to teach online academic courses to a diverse college student body; experience with online teaching is preferred.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD or DBA in Accounting or closely related field from an Accredited University; ABD candidates close to degree completion will be considered; PhD completed by September 16, 2022 would result in a tenure track appointment for current academic year. Otherwise, lecturer appointment. Then if PhD completed after September 16th and before June 15th would result in tenure track position in the following year.
  • Ability and potential of being able to publish a sustained stream of blind peer-review journal articles.
  • Confirmed experience or ability to teach financial and managerial accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Job Duties:
% of Time: 100
Responsibility / Duty: A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, and service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department. Teaching workload for Assistant Professors typically include:Teaching workload for Assistant Professors typically include up to 28 credits of teaching across the academic year (mid-September through mid-June) however, teaching load might be up to 36 credits, subject to department needs and AACSB qualification status. 
 Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the Eastern Washington University Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 7.8.2(a) Teaching. 
  • All faculty are expected to be current in their field or discipline and maintain methods of professional practice or performance. 
  • Each faculty member is responsible for meeting all scheduled classes.
  • Each faculty member is also responsible for planning, organizing and informing students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales. 
  • Faculty are required to provide textbook and other course material adoption information to the EWU bookstore on the timeline established by the bookstore under the authority of RCW 28B.10.590. Faculty are responsible for scheduling and attending office hours to meet the needs of students as identified in department plans. 
  • They are also responsible for turning in grades according to the deadline established by the registrar’s office. 
  • Tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to advise students who are declared majors in their department on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities in their disciplines.


 Additional Responsibilities/Duties
  • Contribute to program, college, and university committees. 
  • Participate in the leadership of local, state, and regional professional organizations.
  • Collect, retain, and disseminate course and program data for accrediting bodies and to maintain professional standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in utilization of creativity and best practice knowledge in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student supervision.
  • Pursue productive research, scholarship and/or creative activities, including professional activities leading to publication, performance, and/or formal presentation in the field.
  • Pursue research funding through grant development.
  • Mentor student portfolio development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in utilization of creativity and best practice knowledge in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student supervision.
  • Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

Conditions of Employment:
The required start date for this position is Sept 16, 2022. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than Sept 16, 2022. This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs. Note: Interviews might be conducted via Zoom (camera must be enabled). While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2022-23, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence using these technologies.
Salary Information: The expected salary upon hire is $130,896.
