Position Description:
The Manager of Public Outreach, Education, and Communications manages the Garden Education Program, Public Outreach & Communications, Campus Communications, the Garden's Sales and Service and Campus Relations.

For the Garden Education Program, incumbent is to oversee K-12 curriculum programs and curriculum-based field trips and manage the garden docent program, including recruitment and training of Garden Educators; annually assess the performance of the docent program and evaluate the success of individual docents; design and deliver training courses for new docents. The manager will also hire and supervise work study students and volunteer educators, as well as managing the training programs. It further includes public tours, community building, planning interpretive signage and managing volunteers and work-study students. Incumbent is to develop curriculum-based field trips, which includes video production, website design, social media, content development, and presentations. It will sometimes require the incumbent to present the work at the American Public Gardens Association's National Conference or other conferences. In addition, incumbent is to manage a $40K grant that is related to school programs at the Garden, which involves the development and delivery of 4th and 7th grade curriculum.

For the management of campus communications, incumbent is to support the activities of the Garden Director, schedule and prepare agenda for the Campus Advisory Group, schedule meetings and provide support for Faculty Affiliates, and coordinate communications and activities with other campus groups as needed.

For Public Outreach & Communication, incumbent is to develop innovative new outreach programs in collaboration with Director and Assistant Director. This includes implementing and administering public outreach, public lecture series, and communication activities with external campus communities, such as speaking with neighborhood groups. Incumbent is to manage one's own budget for Public Outreach, Education and Communications. Incumbent will have an overview the Garden Membership with the administrative support.

For the Garden's Sales and Service and Campus Relations, incumbent is to supervise a Marketing Specialist who will be assisting incumbent on venue reservation and facility management. Incumbent is to manage and oversee the activities in the La Kretz Garden Pavilion and identified rental space within the garden as well as managing the sales and service including invoice set up, etc. Incumbent is to promote and support campus use of the Garden. Incumbent is to be part of the leadership team who will collaborate with the Herbarium Curator, Assistant Garden Director and with a direct report to the Garden Director. The job will require incumbent to work on the evenings and weekends.
