Position Information: DescriptionThe College of Engineering and Mines at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a 12-month appointment, non-tenure track Assistant Professor as the Graduate Director of Energy Engineering.

The UND Energy Engineering program offers graduate programs leading to either the Master of Science (MS), Master of Engineering (MEngr) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant must have a demonstrated dedication to excellence in engineering education and the potential to develop external collaborations with industry leaders.  The successful applicant will have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will have the following primary responsibilities and duties:

    Instruction of core courses in the Energy Engineering curriculum. Establish industry collaborations with the Energy Engineering program.Provide guidance and oversight of industry-sponsored projects.Teaching a 3/3/1 course load in energy engineering, both on-campus and at-a-distance, potentially including both classroom and laboratory settings.  Initial appointment may include a reduced teaching load to initiate external collaborations.Recruitment of students into the Energy Engineering program.Advising students in course planning and fulfilling graduation requirements.Communicating effectively in English with students, families, faculty, staff and other professional colleagues in person and at-a-distance (phone, email, etc.)Utilizing computer hardware and software to carry out teaching, research, and service responsibilities to the mechanical engineering departmentParticipating in department, school/university, and professional service activitiesConducting engineering scholarly activities including grant preparation and submission, mentoring of graduate student researchers, publication of results, and development of an externally funded research program; and Engaging in research supporting Grand Challenges at UND, namely “Promote energy security and environmental sustainability”.
Minimum Requirements
    MS in Energy Engineering or related discipline Experience developing and delivering energy engineering courses
  • Two years of industry experience within energy industry
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.
Minimum Hiring Salary$70,000

Work Schedule/Start Date40-hours per week.  Primarily 9:00am-5:00pm, but some evenings and weekends may be required.
