This position is located on the Campus of University of North Dakota at the Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. Develop suites of advanced real-time control algorithms for smart charging of electric vehicles (EVs). Design, develop and test agent-based control systems for management of EV charging under multiple smart charging scenarios.Work with research engineers and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary R&D teams including researchers within and outside EERC.Prepare technical reports, journal articles, conference articles, and deliver presentations regarding research findings.Develop proposals and secure funding for research projects.

Solid background in modelling of electrical vehicles and distribution systems, data analytics and optimization. Experience in dynamical systems and control theory.Experience with hardware-in-the-loop and digital real-time simulatorsExperience with electrical power systems and smart gridExperience with power electronics converter/inverter design and controlsExpertise with Multiagent systems.Experience with simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink. Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, etc. Experience with machine learning algorithms. Strong work ethicsAbility to work independently and as a member of a diverse teamStrong analytical, communication and task management skills.
Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or Control Engineering or related fields.Experience in grid integration of distributed energy resources and dynamical control systems.Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Experience in electrical vehicle (EV) battery charging and different schemes of smart charging.Experience in distribution grid modelling and grid integration of electric vehicles. Experience with distributed controls and smart multi-agent systems.Hands-on experience with multi-agent system-based simulation tools and hardware-in-the loop testing.Experience with statistical and data analysis tools.
Minimum Hiring Salary
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with flexibility to accommodate work activities/work life balance. Travel may be required.
