Overview

The Admissions Counselor/Recruiter is responsible for representing Claflin University at recruitment fairs and college day/night programs in person or virtual.

 

Responsibilities

Reports to the Director of Admissions and Recruitment.  The Admissions Counselor/Recruiter is responsible for representing Claflin University at on-site and virtual recruitment fairs, college day/night programs, and other student-oriented events. Disseminates admissions materials and recruitment information to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, churches, alumni, community colleges, civic organizations, and at local and national in-state and out-of-state recruitment fairs.  Assumes decision-making responsibility for the admission of high school applicants; processes freshman applications, international applications, transfer student applications, and re-admit applications; and assists with registration. Serves as liaison between students and high school counselors, coordinates interviews and counseling sessions with prospective students and their parents, advises students on the admissions process, and conducts campus tours.  Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university required. The successful candidate must possess an exceptional level of professionalism and demeanor, trust worthiness and dependability, and indubitable confidentiality. Must be able to interact effectively with individuals and groups from various social, economic, and educational backgrounds, as well as diverse populations. Ability to establish priorities based on departmental functionality, handle multiple tasks and projects, work independently, utilize problem solving and critical thinking skills, make sound decisions, and exhibit good moral judgement required. Must represent the exemplary standards of the University.  Excellent communication and presentation skills are necessary to counsel prospective students and convey the academic and campus community programs, student related resources, and historical value of the University. Knowledge of computer software programs and technology as it relates to social media required. Experience in transfer evaluations, international admissions, marketing, retail/sales, and general admissions related functions a plus, but not required for this position.
