The data analyst supports the university's goals by compiling data reports in support of student progression and graduation, academic programming, accreditation, assessment, and institutional research. Completes assigned projects with accuracy adhering to project deadlines. Provides reliable, relevant, and accurate data and information to facilitate planning, budgeting, program evaluation, and development of policy decisions.

Scope of Work:

  • Interacts with other departments on campus to obtain institutional data relevant to the functions and requirements of the Offices of Enrollment Management, the Registrars Office, the Office of Student Success, and Institutional Research.
  • Ability to extract data from database using various computer applications.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify inconsistencies.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains, procedures and queries for retrieval of information.
  • In response to university office queries or as self-initiated direction, assesses, collects, extracts, analyzes, interprets, and reviews relevant and accurate data/information from existing sources; devises methods to identify data trends using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques; and summarizes findings in charts, graphs, tables, reports, dashboards, etc., as requested.
  • Merges or joins data in Excel, Access, or PowerBI.
  • Serves as a resource for and respond to ad-hoc requests for statistics and surveys as required for analyses and reports.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining standard operating procedures for data collection and reporting processes to ensure data integrity and efficiency.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills required to provide information to campus personnel, including the ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with diverse faculty, staff, and administrators in an environment that values shared governance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required qualifications:

Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong technical skills in database and spreadsheet development for data extraction, manipulation and reporting. Understanding of relational databases and the use of data warehousing techniques. Familiarity with some of the following systems/tools: Colleague by Ellucian (Student Information System); Informer; EAB Navigate; Slate; Canvas; 25Live. Demonstrated strong attention to details and ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and with other offices across the University. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously on projects and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred qualification:

Excellent written and oral communication skills. SQL query development. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills.

Oglethorpe is ideally located in the newly-formed city of Brookhaven, an inner suburb of Atlanta recently cited as the safest city in the metro area and one of the most popular destinations for singles and families alike. The campus is situated on Atlanta’s famous Peachtree Road, less than a mile from the Brookhaven-Oglethorpe University MARTA station and easily accessed from all major interstates.
