Responsibilities

Performs clinical and administrative duties in support of the FSU PrimaryHealth clinic. Acts as subject matter expert for other medical assistants. Makes recommendations to improve programs, products, processes, or services.

Under the direction and supervision of the practice manager: leads huddles, identifies transitions of care, updates Advance Directive information, and completes Parent History Questionnaires (PHQ2 and PHQ9) when indicated during the rooming process. Participates in motivational interviewing and techniques of self-management support (goal setting and patient readiness to change). Manages patient expectations and is able to resolve patient concerns independently. Provides training and direction to medical assistants for efficiency and standardization of patient centered care.

Sets up and supports providers with procedures. Performs high level disinfection. Provides in-basket management support for providers, supporting management of the electronic record inboxes, and all communications regarding patient care. Assumes formal role as preceptor to onboard new hire medical assistants. Assists with traces of patient care and regulatory readiness during audit processes. MA must provide a detailed list of all patient care if requested.

Lends experience and expertise to other team members. Leads others to solve complex problems. Identifies and recommends ways to eliminate waste and inefficiencies in the practice. Serves as an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) change agent and embeds EMR functionality into practice work flows to maximize efficiency. Ensures all medical assistants receive training on updates to any of the clinical service standards.

On an annual basis participates on a practice committee. Completes preceptor training. Attends one customer service training session or one leadership training session from a list of courses identified by practice leadership. Provides annual in-service to team members on topics mutually agreed upon with practice manager. Position must be willing to cover during shortages as well. Serves as immediate supervisor for all Medical Assistant positions. Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates staff. Ensures accurate time reporting for assigned staff, and completes staff time approvals and performance evaluations within appropriate FSU deadlines. Promotes an atmosphere of teamwork in accomplishing the strategic initiatives and the mission of the PrimaryHealth Clinic.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and four years of Medical Assisting or other applicable clinical work experience. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

  • Valid Certified Medical Assistant Certification or Registration (CMA, NCMA, RMA or CCMA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification issued by a certifying agency, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Current PPD (Purified Protein Derivative) test as performed by a qualified physician prior to hire.
  • Physical examination completed by a qualified healthcare provider/physician prior to hire.
  • Experience with applicable computer software and programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Electronic Health Records or comparable programs.
  • Experience demonstrating effective customer services skills.
  • Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Experience assessing patient condition independently or in consultation, and providing appropriate treatment or referral for treatment.
  • Experience utilizing problem solving skills.
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and retrieving files from active/archive sources.
  • Knowledge of medical resources and terminology.
  • Within 30 days of hire, you must provide:
    • Documentation of vaccination for Tetanus within the last 10 years.
    • Proof of immunization OR positive titers for Hepatitis B.
Preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Active and unrevoked RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or NCRMA certification/ABR-OE credentials is highly preferred.
  • Skills in preparing clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondences, and/or other written materials.
  • Experience with collection and/or cash handling procedures, and the ability to perform monetary transactions.

Soft Money Funded Position

This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University.

Criminal Background Check
