Primary Function:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide administrative and secretarial support for the School of Interdisciplinary Health Professions (SIHP). Duties include a variety of office support functions designed to implement, maintain, and execute effective office procedures and workflow. Additionally this person interacts with students and prospective students seeking assistance in the SIHP. It is essential that this individual possess strong organizational skills, be able to comprehend, analyze, and solve problems as they occur, and adhere to many deadlines. This individual must also be able to work independently, maintain confidential information, and be able to manage a high level of contact with other NIU units, students, prospective students, and the public on the telephone and in person. This is a full-time 12-month position.

Duties and Responsibilities (generally):

The person in this position reports to the Office Administrator of SIHP. This person will also provide support to the SIHP Curriculum Committee and, as necessary, to the SIHP administrative and instructional staff responsible for the delivery of academic programs. This person will also fill-in for other SIHP office support staff in their absence.

Minimum Required Qualifications for this position:

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of this series.

3. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the categories below:
a). work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems
b). college or university coursework in any curriculum
~twelve (12) semester hours = six (6) months
~twenty-four (24) semester hours = twelve (12) months
~thirty-six (36) semester hours = eighteen (18) months
~forty-eight (48) semester hours = twenty-four (24) months

Education and Experience Preferred:

Have a strong working knowledge of MyNIU, OnBase, and the BlackBoard course delivery platform including BlackBoard Content Collection.

Experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher).

List the knowledge, skills, and abilities critical to the performance of this position.:

The holder of this position must thoroughly understand the procedures related to the delivery of academic programs including reserving meeting space, classroom accommodations and scheduling classrooms, and course scheduling systems, as well as exercising judgment in arranging meetings, conferences, and student contact for the SIHP. Understand the importance of confidentiality of records, described by FERPA and related laws and policies, and actively maintain confidentiality as required. This individual must be able to pleasantly greet and deal effectively with large numbers of people during the day and remain composed and alert; have experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, O365; and Publisher); have a strong working knowledge of MyNIU, and OnBase.

Working Hours:

M-F, 8am to 4:30pm

Minimum Pay Rate (Hourly or Monthly):

$11.43 per hour

Physical Demands:

This position will sit and type for extended periods of time.

Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.

Must have the ability to deliver messages/mail to buildings closely surrounding Wirtz Hall.
