8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday. Extended hours may be necessary. Hours may be flexed around the university’s core hours (9:00 am – 4:00 p.m.)

Primary Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for the intake of employee complaints, resolution of such complaints, administering the disciplinary procedures including reviewing and editing written warnings and other such documentation. Serves as the primary point of contact for employees/supervisors needing assistance with employee relations issues.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

University Preferred Qualifications:


Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating and promoting HR best practices in the context of organizational goals and objectives; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Job Duties:

This position is an entry level position that will manage employee relations issues for SHRA and EHRA Staff employees. The incumbent will be responsible for the intake of employee complaints, resolution of such complaints, administering the disciplinary procedures including reviewing and editing written warnings and other such documentation.

Other Work Responsibilities:

Consult with supervisors and/or employees on employee relations issues. Offer alternatives on resolving issues. Offer assistance to employees/supervisors in appropriate grievance/complaint procedure.

Provide assistance on drafting workplans, performance improvement plans, etc., which involve a thorough understanding of the operational knowledge of the employee’s work unit.

Represents the university in unemployment hearings.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Demonstrated ability to multitask, set priorities, manage multiple responsibilities and deliver against deadlines.

Strong consultative and interpersonal skills with experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Understanding of human resources, employee relations, and employment law.

Previous experience working in Human Resources.

Familiarity with employment law including but not limited to: FLSA, ADA, FMLA, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, etc.

Previous customer service experience.

Strong written communication skills.
