Department Information The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) resides in the Mike Cottrell College of Business (MCCB) and offers majors in computer science (CS), cybersecurity, and information systems (IS). CS is ABET accredited. IS has AACSB accreditation, as do the other business majors in the college. The MCCB is home to the UNG Institute for Cyber Operations, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the BB&T Center for Ethical Leadership. MCCB graduate programs include the Cottrell MBA, Master of Accountancy, and three graduate certificates. A Master of Science in CS with focus areas of machine learning and cybersecurity is moving through the UNG curriculum review stage with a target start date of fall 2022. The MCCB international group of teacher-scholars provides an exceptional learning community to prepare students for their professional roles and to engage with business and industry in the region to foster economic development. The MCCB is the second largest college at UNG and enrolls over 4,400 students. The college will move into its new building, the Cottrell Center for Business, Technology & Innovation located on the Dahlonega campus, in fall 2022. The facility will foster a state-of-the-art learning environment with specialized spaces for CS, including a cyber range, forensics/cyber lab and hardware/networking lab. UNG is designated by the NSA and Department of Homeland Security as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE). Through support of a multi-million dollar grant from the DoD, the cyber security program has a strong focus on preparing the future cyber workforce for the military, government, and defense contractors. UNG’s student CyberHawks have won the NSA Codebreaker Challenge by a landslide for two years in a row. Job Summary MCCB’s Department of Computer Science & Information Systems invites applicants for a full-time, limited term faculty position in cyber security for spring 2022, fall 2022, and spring 2023.
The successful candidate will teach cyber security and computer science subjects ranging from introductory to advanced level courses, undergraduate to graduate. Upper-level courses may include computer security and forensics, network security, or specialty electives such as Linux, reverse engineering, secure software development. Relevant credentials, experience, or research in cybersecurity is strongly preferred. Selected candidates may be required to teach on more than a single campus. Cybersecurity faculty are encouraged to engage with the university’s military connections and the emerging technology industry populating the north Georgia and Atlanta region, and provide high quality learning experiences in and out of the classroom. Responsibilities
- Teach four courses per semester
- Work with student projects, internships and competitions
- Work with faculty on research projects
- Support the culture of the department, MCCB, UNG, and its service community
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of teaching pedagogy
- Skill at teaching online a plus
- Ability to translate highly technical information into understandable content for undergraduate and graduate students in computer science courses
- Ability to conduct computer science related quality scholarship
A PhD in computer science or related field required. May consider ABD with evidence that degree is nearing completion. Record or potential of high-quality, in-field scholarship.Evidence of superior teaching abilities.
- Professional experience or certifications in specialized areas of cybersecurity preferred.
- Cybersecurity industry certifications including but not limited to Security+, CEH, CISSP
